"I"?

What does this "I" signify?
The Brain, the Heart or the Soul?
And if all these are parts,
Then what is the whole?

"I"?
------------------------------------------

For me this is the biggest riddle of life. I set out looking for the "I", to understand the meaning of "I"... and ultimately reached the same "I", completing a circle, for realization dawned that the begining was the end, the question was the answer. Sometimes I question the answer and at others I answer the question, going round and round on this orbit of life.

if all these are parts, then sometimes the sum of parts is more than the whole.... the question which you have posed here is the eternal one, and many perished searching for an answer...n will continue to do so...it's the eternal quest...

on some other day i would have said I means itunes or ipod or iphone or some thing even more weird but since its republic day i'd say I means India :):):)

take a chill pill nad cheers .. whats it with knowing I that everyone's writing about. I'd rather know others than 'i'

@Kavita: Yes it is an eternal one and like many others, I seek the answer too.
However, like a few people (Buddha and other saints)I do not believe in giving up everything worldly to find my answers. I am just too entangled in the worldly... what do u call it "sins"? :-)

@Sushant: hahaha... cheers to India! :-)
Have u heard that joke... Two psychologists met once... and one asked the other... "You are fine... how am I?"
Well... Its almost like that for me... Its easier to understand others than oneself. But I know its not worth breaking your head for, bcoz You will never know yourself... :-)

Rather than trying to find out what "I" means try to find out what pleases you :D And yeah happy republic day :)

I means the egg that ferlitized to be you and every single atom and electron in it. I means your body parts. I means your actions. I means your reasons. And the reasons of every one else who si not you. I is the family, that is unified and separated in its interests and its wellbeing. I is the city, that is organized and that will is ruined. I is the country, that is governed by selfish civil workers and the patriotism that is in every salute. I is the planet, that stands alone among the many without life. I is the galaxies that hide so much life in their planets. I is the universe that questions itself, what is I? I is the being that questions occasionally and breathes irregularly.

I was asking myself the same question when I wrote my blog. it is not a coincidence because it is too common and too natural to ask what is I?

Ravali said...

This is merely a myth. Not the truth. All that I have written here is a tale. and story that is told in every religion and code of living. Go out and find the truth yourself.

@Vibhanshu: Oh that I already know naa... the fun is in trying to know the unknown :-)
And wish you too a very Happy Republic Day :)))

@Ravali: Very well put Ravali... and yes thats the truth... but I guess we all need to re-discover it... It is like something written in hebrew... we need to translate it in our own dialect... and yes this is a quest that everyone comes across and several times in life...
Once earlier... when I was creating a yahoo id, I came across a question like "What am I" and here is what I wrote...

What am I?

I am Beauty; I am Brains,
I am the dessert; I am the Rains.
I am the first ray of the rising Sun,
I am the last setting on the horizon.
I am the River; I am the Fountain,
I am the Hill; I am the Mountain.
I am the happy Summer fields,
I am the cactus that Winter yields.

I am Passion; I am Serenity,
I am Human; I am Divinity.
I am the tenderness of first love,
I am the strength in times rough.
I am the Happiness; I am the sorrow,
I am the Today; I am the Tomorrow.
I am the first cry of a newborn,
I am the last sigh bidding “Good Bye”.

Ask me not What I am!
Ask my neighbour, and my friend,
Ask the earth, and the heaven.
Ask the angels, and the demon,
When none reply ask the Omens.
Ultimately, my friend, ask your heart,
Listen carefully and don’t start.
Yes! That is what I am.

This was a temporary answer, before the quest renewed :-)

in my opinion "I" is what difference or impatct his/her existence has made to other than "I"..its again relative..

Hi Puneet... bade dinon baad aapki awaaz suni :-)
Nice thought... I can be seen with repect to you and them... the theory of relativity... :-)

'i' am still thinking of what to write here, and right now 'I' am one confused person.

and 'I' can only suggest you let it linger, because it might be too early to connect the dots.

AakASH!!! said...

WOW! At the poem that you have re-written here in response to ravali.

My I is the ego, and thus it is everything.

We all have our own I's in our eyes dont we?

but for now lets smile at this... :-)

u asked about "I"
when you had a clear cut idea in your mind...while starting this blog itself...

Aakhir Main hoon ek Kshanik insaan..
how wonderful it is.... even that idea did not last longer...

Winged Fantasy said...

@Ajit: hmmm confused... that is my trait... :-)
And yes I shall linger for I cannot even see the dots yet...

@Aakash: thanks
:-)

@Puneet: What you call clarity of idea was the resultant of a confusion very similar and the response was momentary...
What I look for is a permanant answer, an answer that would connect every thread, all plots and sub-plots of this drama called life... :-)

Aks said...

Hey Minakshi

The idea of 'I' has gone too far... those lines in response to Ravali are beautiful. I did not respond so far too read what others have to say :-)

We keep looking around and everything is so damn intriguing. Every answer is yet another question which inturn has another relative answer. Its a loop and we shall never come out it. Ask me I and I do not want to come out of it.!!

"What I look for is a permanant answer, an answer that would connect every thread, all plots and sub-plots of this drama called life... :-) "

Kshanik insaan seeking a permanent answer !! especially when she knows that "Only thing which is constant is change"...
:-)
so again your answer leads to another question from me... what say ?
Keep searching and keep learning !!
Cheers !!

@Aks: You are responsible for unleashing this flood of "I"... you were the one who initiated it at your blog, and I was caught up in the flow... and I here dragged everyone with me for a moment at least... :-)

Well sawaalon ke issi chakraviyuh mein toh phans ke reh gaye hain hum sabhi nahi? Aur is bhavar se nikalna mushkil hai janaab... ya phir mohtarma?

@Aakash!!!: Likh toh hai kuch... but soch rahi hoon post karoon ya nahi... :-)

@Sushant: Kahan gayab hain aap? Aur woh naya template achha lag raha hai... But yeh parivartan from "Come what May..." to "Time-pass" samajh nahi aaya?

@ Lavender: Yes very true. But who is Brahma , Vishnu and Shiva among the brain, heart and soul? Brahma wud be the brain for sure... but among Vishnu and Shiva... who is the heart and who is the soul? A very interesting perspective... It takes away the pointless meandering into a definitive religious path... thanks lavender :-)

mauhtarma, yakinan mauhtarma!! ;)

uljhanon, sawalon, jawabon ko lagam dijiye
aur is kshan apne astitva ko pehchan lijiye,
jo jaan loge tum khud ko har ik pal mein,
to jee loge zindagi pal bhar mein.
pal pal mein yun hi kat jayegi ye zindagi,
na uljhoge khud se, khayalon se
bas karoge apne dil ki hi bandagi !

Pleasure and honour is mine to have witnessed so many people pool in their invaluable thoughts to the most intriguing question of my life... But then, all thanks goes to you !

Winged Fantasy said...

@ Aks: Mohtarma,

Yun toh...

Khayalon ke lagaam khinch len...
bhavnaon ke bahaav ko rok den...
sawaalon ke bhavar ko cheer den...
Apne astitva ko paane ki khaatir,
Hum toh yeh jahaan bhi chod den...

par phir zaraa socho...

Yadi jaan kar khudko pal bhar mein
Jeelen saari yeh zindagi,
Toh phir kis ummeed mein kategi
baaki bachi yeh zindagi?

Isliye...

zaraa zaraa sa jeeyo har pal...
sawaal dar-sawaal kai padaav banao,
Pal bhar theher har padaav par...
haseen lamhe zindagi banao...
:-)

I almost understand that feeling..
Its just that you are few levels above me,eternaly and philosphically..
Loved reading it....

Winged Fantasy said...

No Aman... Its not about being above or below... Its about being able to connect. And since you understand the feeling, we stand on the same plane of understanding :-)

Lekin haan umar mein toh main tumse badi hoon, so a few priviledges I do get... aakhir baal aise hi dhoop mein safed thodi kiye hain? ;-) hahaha... just kidding. :-)
